Bhubaneswar: During the fifth edition of the Business Eminence Awards, Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo highlighted the importance of collaboration among entrepreneurs and citizens to advance Odisha's development.
Singh Deo, addressing the audience as the chief guest at the event held at Swosti Premium in Bhubaneswar, stated, “We have a long way to go to position Odisha as the leading state in India. With the right guidance and backing, we can achieve this objective.”
He extended his Ashoka Ashtami greetings to the award recipients and attendees, commending the initiative by the publications to recognize and celebrate emerging entrepreneurs, which he believes will significantly enhance the business climate in the state.
The Deputy CM praised Biraja Prasad Rout, the founder of Biggies Burger, who was the chief speaker at the event, for his remarkable success in managing a nationwide restaurant chain with over 150 locations. Singh Deo remarked that Rout's accomplishments serve as an inspiration for others.
In his speech, Rout shared his entrepreneurial journey, which began in 2011 with just Rs 20,000 in savings, never anticipating he would establish India's largest homegrown burger chain. He noted, “Events like the Business Eminence Awards, which celebrate the dedication and perseverance of entrepreneurs, provide a significant morale boost to advance in one’s career.”
Rout also reflected on the transformation of the entrepreneurial landscape in Odisha and India, emphasizing that entrepreneurship is now recognized as a crucial component of economic development.
Tathagata Satpathy, Editor of the publications, mentioned that the awards were initiated in 2021 during the challenging Delta wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, aiming to honor entrepreneurs who navigated the difficulties of running businesses during that period.
He expressed that entrepreneurship in Odisha is particularly challenging due to the state's complex business environment, which is not always conducive to trade. However, he noted a recent shift towards a more supportive atmosphere for businesses, emphasizing the importance of government and community backing in fostering this change.
Satpathy referred to Rout as a ‘symbol of youth power in Odisha’ and praised his achievements and leadership. He concluded by stressing that entrepreneurs impart essential lessons about risk-taking and decision-making, which are vital for success in business.
In her welcoming remarks, Adyasha Satpathy, Chief Executive of the publications, recognized the challenges faced by entrepreneurs and their unwavering commitment to continue their ventures despite obstacles.
She reiterated that the Business Eminence Awards were established to honor those who overcome challenges, create employment opportunities, and contribute to the economic growth of both the state and the nation.
